Our Story

The Harmer Imports story started in the 1990’s under a different name, with the owners’ strong desire to supply the New Zealand market with unique, often one-off, items for indoor and outdoor home decor, while also providing meaningful employment to craftspeople in far away countries.

After setting up many work projects in India, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Java, the predecessor to Harmer Imports flourished and became a household name. Wanting to retire from the busy lifestyle that comes with a successful business, Barry and Annette handed the reigns to young Willie and Hayley Harmer, who put their name to the business and work closely with Barry and Annette, to follow the ethics and traditions already in place.

Harmer Imports today has new young blood filled with passion and desire, and the drive to keep the business and humanitarian work alive and successful into the future.

Harmer Imports still has all the traditional home decor lines as before and Willie and Hayley have added a lot more. They continue to support traditional craftspeople in under privileged areas in many parts of the world.
